“Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It’s the one and only thing you have to offer.” —- barbara kingsolver

written too quickly while it slowed down at work.

Everyday I hear people complain about really silly things in life. Unimportant, petty, insignificant things.

Today, one of the workers came in with a burn on his hand. This man is a walking liability. Last week, a big iron rod cut his eyelid open. Yesterday, he fell off one of the machines. He always manages to spring back up and never misses a day of work. I was helping him cleanse his burn and we started talking about his luck. He said he was extremely unlucky and started telling me how he hadn’t seen his children in 10 years. I was feeling pretty down at this point when he looked at me and said “But, I’m still happy. I have a job, great friends, and I’m happy. Life is good. I am alive.” I looked at him and he was just smiling, eyes shining. I wrapped up his hand and we high fived. Zero complaining, he went on about his work.

Despite everything, remain positive. Remember, things can always be worse. Be positive, surround yourself with positivity. Smile and be strong.

What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.

“‘I probably still haven’t completely adapted to the world,’ I said after giving it some thought. ‘I don’t know, I feel like this isn’t the real world. The people, the scene: they just don’t seem real to me.’” — murakami haruki

LOVE, n.A temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. This disease, like caries and many other ailments, is prevalent only among civilized races living under artificial conditions; barbarous nations breathing pure air and eating simple food enjoy immunity from its ravages. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient. - the devil’s dictionary
